For my assignment I chose Justin Bieber's 'Love Yourself' music video.

I'm in love with both the song and the MV.
This MV is definitely a combination of narrative, performative, and conceptual.

This MV tells a story through performing art (dance) and environment, creating a well-known concept of relationship hurdles. The tone uses mostly neutral colors to create a mellow picture to the viewer.  This MV also seems to use light as a foreshadow.  When the couple in the MV more interacts with one another on a positive note, there seems to be more lights around.  The MV also abides by the Rule of Thirds, creating a successful picture.

While I don't believe any one part of this MV is more important than the next due to the cohesive narrative, the scene where the couple is dancing in the living room seems to strike me as a unique moment for the two of them, as it seems they are getting along a little more than they were.  They both have equal distance in the foreground and equal lighting allowing the viewer to appreciate them both individually instead of being in the background or foreground.  Not to mention they're both mimicking one another's dance moves, perhaps suggesting that the couple is still close despite the fact they're fighting.

The camera tends to stay still to allow the dancer's movements to tell the story in combination with the lyrics.  The dancers do an excellent rendition of a visual narrative to the lyrics as both hint at heart break and complication.  It was actually refreshing to see Justin Bieber release music as lax and relatable as 'Love Yourself'.

Hello!

My name is Kara Bogoslawski.  I'm extremely shy and keep to myself - ironic for someone with half-crazy hair, am I right?  I reach out to others through my art, so maybe we can share a connection sometime.  I am a New Media major with a concentration in Interactive Media and I absolutely love it! But then again I’ve always had a thing for the digital arts.

In my spare time I’m often found playing video games. Lately I’ve been drowning myself in Fallout 4, Skyrim (yes - still), Minecraft, and MMORPGs. My hobbies include digital drawing and building computer rigs. It’s all so fascinating to me!

I’m not a fan of movies or TV at all.  Once again - ironic.  If I ever watch anything, it’s on the computer. Although.. I also rarely ever touch Netflix so that goes to show how much of an expert I am at this motion media stuff.

If I had depths of knowledge, I would make my own fantasy video game. I’m in love with the Final Fantasy series, so anything along that line of work would be wonderful. Ive started dabbling in video game design so hopefully when I graduate, I can snag a job in relation to that or web page design. Fingers crossed that this degree doesn’t go to waste!

Art is an outlet and digital media is just one form of expression.  Hopefully I can continue to inspire others with my fine-tuned knowledge absorbed through IUSB.
